Today started off with sleeping in and chilling at the cabin. We all needed the rest and it was so nice to just enjoy the beautiful space. We seriously need to consider getting a pool table, as we all enjoyed playing. And we played quite a few games!

After our lazy morning, we headed out for a bite to eat on our way to white water rafting. We ate at a place called Trish’s Mountain Diner which was good. Then we went to Hayward, North Carolina for our trip with Nantahala Outdoor Center on the lower portion of the Pigeon River.

Our guide was amazing and we learned a lot about the area. She told us that the river is dam controlled so it was pretty predictable as far as how it’s flowing. She also said on days when the dam isn’t open, all the river receives is mountain run off water which is crystal clear.

While we enjoyed the river ride, we wished we had done the upper Pigeon after speaking to our guide because it would have been a little more engaging for the kids.

After rafting, we explored by driving through a few little towns near the eastern side of the park and east of Gatlinburg. It’s a beautiful area. Then, we went back to the cabin for our final evening of vacay.

We had so many great experiences together and made memories we will cherish forever. And although it’s sad that vacation time is coming to an end, we are all ready to go home to see our family and friends, our pets and to sleep in our own beds.

Special shout out to our nephew Josh! Happy 10th birthday, Josh! we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

I’ve never done a blog before but my husband suggested we start one so we can capture our memories and share what we learn. Let the adventures begin!
